Dolphin spotting tour with snorkelling Figarolo Island. Departures from Olbia and Golfo Aranci
Beautiful excursion to discover the island of Figarolo and Capo Figari, where we will attempt the sighting of dolphins, we will make swimming stops and snorkelling stops.
In the Capo Figari area there is a good chance of spotting dolphins of the bottlenose species that they have been swimming in these waters for years.
Cala Greca, Cala Moresca and the island of Figarolo are some of the places where we will stop for a swim and, for the more sporty, snorkelling.
Attention
The points of interest during the tour are variable in relation to the place where the dolphins are and according to the marine weather conditions. The commander will illustrate the best route to carry out the sighting.
Navigation
Near the island of Figarolo there is a fish farm, where, inside huge cages, sea bass and sea bream are raised in large quantities. The presence of these fish attracts dolphins in search of food. Sailing near the island and the plant, the chances of spotting dolphins are very high.
The guide on board will illustrate the characteristics and habits of these specimens.
Isola Figarolo
A community of moufflons lives on the island, it is often possible to spot the specimens that overlook the cliffs to graze on the appetizing bushes salted by the sea. At the end of summer, the island is populated by gray herons that rest on its ridges.
Cala Moresca
The main feature of this bay is the blue color of the water which can be admired especially in the morning when the sun rises from the mountain and illuminates the clear waters.
Some scenes of the Disney live-action remake "The Little Mermaid" were filmed on the beach of Cala Moresca
Capo Figari
The fauna of this site includes among the major exponents the mouflon, the wild boar, the fox, the hare, the tortoise, the Corsican gull and the herring gull, the peregrine falcon, the lesser shearwater, the cormorant and the shag.
The flora that populates the promontory is made up of the typical Mediterranean maquis. Among the species present, you can admire myrtle, juniper, wild olive, holm oak, strawberry tree, cistus, helichrysum, heather, lavender and rosemary, mastic, rush and euphorbia.

Curiosity about bottlenose dolphins
The dolphins community which lives in the water nearby Golfo Aranci belongs to the gender of bottlenose. Dolphins are marin mammals so they live under water all their life and they do daily activities as eat, sleep and play. Underwater they mate, they give birth and breastfeed their babies continuing to breathe putting out of the water their “nose”.
Some numbers:
- The dolphins community in Golfo Aranci is numerous, by the way the habits of these mammal is to live in small group composed by 2 or 3 until 10 members. In most of case they are female. Male members prefer to live alone and to join the group just in some period…
- They can swim at 30km per houres .
- Dolphins have lungs like us, marine mammals can stay under water from few minutes till few hours (like sperm whales)
- Gestation is around 12 months, babies born underwater and they are feed till 18 months, they live nearby their moms till 4 years;
- Are dolphins dangerous? They’re usually peaceful and playful but the females, like every mammals mum, care a lot about their puppies so if they hear presence of a danger, they could became aggressive, like every mother do!
- Dolphins in some case live more than 50 years, however during their life they meet many dangers and infant mortality rate is quite high. Main threats are: sea fishing net, intensive fishing, chemical and noise pollution, plastic, collision with boat’s propellers…
It is essential to maintain a responsible conduct at every stage of dolphin watching for the protection and safety species.
